Viljams Šekspīrs (1564–1616) bija angļu renesanses laika dramaturgs, dzejnieks un aktieris. Viņš sarakstījis 154 sonetus, kas pirmo reizi vienā izdevumā angļu valodā tika izdoti 1606. gadā.
Šos sonetus latviešu valodā atdzejojuši vienpadsmit tulkotāji: F. Adamovičs, L. Akuratere, A. Balodis, V. Belševica, V. Brutāne, R. Egle, S. Kaldupe, P. Kalva, M. Ķempe, O. Sarma, B. Saulītis.
